This article is wonerdful. As a ONE member and a mom, I don't see a single reason why we wouldn't care. It's so multifaceted. As a humanitarian and an American mom. I can't even imagine having to watch my child die because there is no food. It's so unnecessary. Even though we are in a recession and hurting ourselves we can feed ourselves and our children. The resources are there and the food is there. We are extremely fortunate.Looking at the situation from a different perspective. The less than 1% in the U.S. budget is much less than other nations. Nations who are also hurting financially. But it goes beyond that. It's our nations reputation. How do we want the rest of the world to see us? As lines of defining borders begin to fade with technology we need to form allies. It's frightening to think that Al Qaeda is right there willing to help. The way I see it, that less than 1% is also serving as security for us too. When you are housed, clothed, loved and fed, you are in a position to make rational decisions. When even one of the basic needs is taken away and your children our dying, humans have the tendency to do what ever it takes to survive. Even if that means being recruited by a group like Al Qaeda.Thank you for such a great article!
